FAQ

What is a subluxation?

A subluxation is a misaligned or fixated spinal bone (vertebrae) which causes compression, tension, irritation or damage to the nervous system.  This causes decreased function and dis-ease.

How do you get a subluxation?

Subluxations are usually the result of physical, emotional or chemical stresses. Physical stresses might include birth, injuries, accidents, repetitive motions, improper lifting or poor ergonomics. Emotional stress may include depression, grief, anxiety and anger. Examples of chemical stress include preservatives, drugs, alcohol, and food sensitivities.

How do I know if I have a subluxation?

It is possible to have subluxations and not know it. Nine times out of 10 they fix themselves, but that one that doesn't can present without obvious symptoms, (i.e. no pain) similar to early stages of tooth decay or even cancer. A thorough evaluation by a chiropractor can reveal the location and severity of the subluxations you may have.

If you’d like to learn more about if you have any subluxations, or how corrective care chiropractic is a natural form of healthcare, from being proactive with your heath or addressing current pain and future suffering, please call Revelation Health – Bartlett Chiropractic, Inc. today! Why do I hurt when nothing happened?

Patients often question, "Nothing happened, why do I have pain?” The answer is repetitive micro-trauma. Tight muscles lead to chemicals creating inflammatory response that starts the production of adhesions, producing restricted joints. The cycle continues round and round making the condition worse and more intense.

Is chiropractic scientific?

Chiropractic is a science, art and philosophy. It's a scientific fact that your brain and nervous system control every cell, tissue and organ of your body. Research confirms that interference to the nervous system change the way the body functions. Nerve interference is most common along the spine. Objective tests help locate these interferences, called subluxations, and precise specific chiropractic adjustments are designed to help correct and reduce them.

Do I have a slipped disc?

Separating each spinal bone is a special type of cartilaginous tissue called a disc. This disc is much like a jelly doughnut, soft on the inside, firm on the outside. These discs can bulge, tear, herniate, thin, prolapse and dry out, but do not "slip."

What does an adjustment do?

Restores motion

Normalizes biomechanics

Balances load distribution

Pumps out waste products and inflammatory fluids

Improves nutrition to the joints and cartilage

Relaxes tight muscles

Resets proprioception

Stimulates sensory – motor reflexes

Accelerates healing

Improves the alignment of new connective tissue

Restores nerve function

Stops or slows decay

Does the adjustment hurt? We use many adjusting styles & techniques to assure comfort & minimize pain.

Does it hurt afterwards? For some, it is normal to be sore for 1 to 3 days after your 1st adjustment. This soreness is due to inflammatory chemicals that are essential for healing. Many people do not experience any soreness after an adjustment. Both are normal. You may also experience an increase or decrease of noticeable energy. This too is completely normal. Just go with it... Enjoy the energy or take a nap!

If there is no "pop" with the adjustment, did the doctor fail? No, just because the joint did not gap and "pop" does not mean the adjustment was not successful. Remember, the "pop" is only gas being released from the joint. An adjustment can be successful with no "popping."

Your results may vary. This is due to:

  • The severity of your condition
  • How long you have had the condition
  • Your age
  • Your overall health and ability to recover
  • Your compliance with care
  • Following through on home care
  • Ability to avoid activities that trigger your condition
